The problem with existing directories
G2, Capterra, and their peers run on a pay-to-win model. The rankings you see aren't based on product quality — they're based on who paid for a premium tier. A bootstrapped SaaS built in Berlin or Warsaw with a genuinely better product is invisible behind a VC-funded US competitor that can afford a €30K listing.
On top of that, none of them verify EU data sovereignty. When a European company is evaluating software, knowing whether the product stores data in Frankfurt or in us-east-1 matters — legally, under GDPR, and practically, under Schrems II. You can't find that information on G2.
What Squidir does differently
Three things, and they're non-negotiable:
Verified EU sovereignty
We verify HQ country, server location, and VAT registration — not self-declared. The EU Score is auditable.
Transparent ranking
The ranking algorithm is public. EU score (35%), reviews (25%), VAT verified (15%), completeness (15%), age (10%). Your subscription never changes your position.
Free for indie SaaS
A basic listing is free forever. The indie European SaaS ecosystem shouldn't need a marketing budget to be discoverable.
How products get listed
Squidir operates under the same standard model used by G2, Capterra, and AlternativeTo: we list publicly available information about software products without requiring prior consent from the vendor. This is legal and standard practice in the industry.
We aggregate public information (name, description, URL, pricing page) and paraphrase it — we never copy text verbatim. VAT numbers are verified against the EU's public VIES registry. Vendors can claim their listing at any time to update information, add their EU badge, or request removal.
